April:

April 26-27: Day at the Docks at Holden Beach. It is from 10am to 4pm. Arts and Crafts, live entertainment and “Bopple Race”. For details please call 910-842-7355.

May 17: Beach Music Bash from 11am to 6pm. Silver Coast Winery in Longwood. Dance to the best beach music around. Food, arts & crafts, and a Shag contest. Admission charged. Please call 287-2800 for details.
May 17: Brunswick County walk America 2008 10:15 am at Southport. WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes premier fundraiser event. More than 200 walkers, representing 40-plus local businesses with a goal of raising more than $50,000. For details, please call Lori Lorusso at

May 30-June 1: Bald Head Island Annual Fishing Rodeo Tournament at Bald Head Island Marina. Please call 910-457-3779 for fees and information.

June 6-7: Annual Flounder Tournament in Shallotte Point. Call 910-579-3757 for information.
June 17-21: Pirate Boot Camp and Pirate Invasion for children. N.C. Maritime Museum located at 116 N. Howe Street, Southport. Fee charged. Free private invasion on Garrison Lawn. For details call Madeline Spencer at 910-457-0003.

June 23-July 21: National Art Show at Franklin Square Gallery in Southport. Daily from 10 am to 5pm. Juried and judged national art show. Top Prize is $1,000. Contact the Associated Artists of Southport at 910-457-5450.
June 28: The 30th Annual N.C. Fourth of July Festival Freedom Run: 5K Run/Walk and 1-mile Freedom Run walk. It starts at 8 am at the Southport Waterfront Park Bay Street. Fee is $20.00. Please call

July:
July 1-4: N.C. Fourth of July Festival in Southport. Arts, crafts, parade, 5K run, food, entertainment, children’s games, naturalization ceremony and much more. Visit www.nc4thofjuly.com for details. Most events are free.
August:
August 29-30: Brunswick Islands King Classic Mackerel Tournament at Holden Beach Marina. Please call (800) KING-MAC for details.
August 30: Fifth Annual Oak Island Surf-Off that begins at 8 am. Ocean Crest Pier, Oak Island, NC. This contest welcomes surfers and body-board riders of all ages and skill levels from 8 years of age and older with divisions of men, women, boys and girls. Division winners will be awarded prizes and keepsake trophies. Admission is $25.00, with $5.00 for each additional event. Call Rob Rhyne at 910-448-0007 for details.
August 30: Labor Day Arts and Crafts Fair from 9am to 5pm at Middleton Park located on Oak Island. Contact Dick Staat at 910-201-4090 for details. (Rain date is Sept. 2 from 10am – 5pm).
September:
September 1: Children’s Crab Derby at 9am -12pm at the Southport Waterfront. This is for ages 16 years old and younger. Free T-shirt to the first 50 children. September 6: Annual Sea Trail 5 Mile Run. Race begins and ends at Jones-Byrd Patio at Sea Trail Plantation at Sunset Beach. Race registration begins at 7am. This is a five-mile loop course. Awards go to the top 3 finishers in each age and overall top three male and female. Proceeds benefit Brunswick Family Assistance office. Please call 910-754-4766 for information and registration. October 2-4: Annual U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament, 10am at the Southport Marina. Offering more than $100,000 in prizes. Guaranteed prize structure. Entertainment, fish fry, fishing tournament. October 4: Captain Charlie’s Kids’ Fishing Tournament, 10am to 2pm. Southport Waterfront. For ages 16 and younger. Free T-shirt and food to first 100 children. Bring one fishing rod and bait. Free! Please contact the Southport Parks and Recreation Department at 910-457-7945.
October 18-19: North Carolina Oyster Festival, Ocean Isle Beach. The premier oyster roast on the state attracted more than 45,000 people in 2007. This festival includes arts, crafts, games, live entertainment, oysters, seafood, N.C Oyster Shucking Championship, Oyster Stew Cook Off, Kids’ Area, road race and more.
